A pattern that fits perfectly in a size 8 sample can fall apart across a full size run. And the manufacturer you picked because they were cheapest can suddenly go quiet when your delivery slips three weeks.

1. Design consultation and tech pack. You bring the concept — a sketch, a reference garment, a mood board. The factory turns it into a technical package: measurements, construction notes, and fabric specs a sewing line can actually follow. Skipping this step is the most common reason first orders come out wrong.

2. Material sourcing. Fabric, thread, zippers, and labels get sourced, ideally with documentation for fiber content and any certifications you've requested (GOTS, OEKO-TEX, recycled-content verification). This is also where most delays start — specialty or custom-dyed fabric can take weeks longer than stock material.

3. Pattern making and sampling. A pattern is cut and a physical sample is sewn. One to three sampling rounds before approval is normal — it's only a red flag if you're on round six with no clear explanation of what changed.

4. Costing and order confirmation. Once fit is approved, the factory finalizes per-unit pricing based on fabric consumption, labor, and trims. You confirm quantities and place a deposit.

5. Bulk production and quality control. Cutting, sewing, and inline inspection happen here. Good factories check quality at multiple points during production — that's what catches a stitching defect before it repeats across 2,000 units instead of 20.

6. Finishing, packing, and shipping. Garments are pressed, tagged, and packed to spec. Final random-sample inspection (AQL checks) typically happens here, right before the shipment leaves the factory.
